Marisa:

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival.

I've heard a lot about this book from Briana and Arielle. Apparently it's really amazing and better than Harry Potter so I'm very excited to read it. I've been wanting to buy it for a long time so hopefully I'll be able to soon.

Briana:
Avalon High, I was starting to think, might not be so bad after all.
Maybe it's not where
Ellie wants to be, but if you have to start at a new school, Avalon High is typical enough: There's Lance, the jock. Jennifer, the cheerleader. And Will, senior class president, quarterback, and all-around good guy.
But not everyone at Avalon High is who they appear to be . . . not even, as Ellie is about to discover, herself. As a bizarre drama begins to unfold, Ellie has to wonder, what part does she play in all this? Do the coincidences she's piecing together really mean—as in King Arthur's court—that tragedy is fast approaching for her new friends?
Ellie doesn't know if she can do anything to stop the coming trouble. But somehow, she knows she has to try.

I've never read anything by Meg Cabot, and I figured if I'm going to try one of her more popular novels. I'm not really interested in reading The Princess Diaries, so I think this one comes next. What did you guys think of this book? Or just of Meg Cabot as an author?

Arielle:

Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder

Brooklyn can’t sleep.

Her boyfriend, Lucca died a year ago, and now their friend Gabe has died of an overdose. Every time she closes her eyes, Gabe's ghost is there, waiting for her. She has no idea what he wants or why it isn't Lucca chasing her through her dreams.
Nico can’t stop. He’s always running, trying so hard not to feel the pain of missing Lucca. But when he begins receiving messages from his dead brother, telling him to help Brooklyn, emotions come crashing to the surface.
As the nightmares escalate and the messages become relentless, Brooklyn and Nico will discover just how deeply they need each other and what it truly means to move on.

I heard about this book from another blog, and it sounds really really interesting!! I really like the cover and the story sounds cool. I hope to read it when it comes out! It comes out January 5th, 2010! :)

  3. The Hunger Games is simply amazing. Avalon High is probably one of my favourite Meg Cabot books. I don't like some of hers all too much, but Avalon High is good. Chasing Brooklyn sounds really great. Have to wait till next year... gah.

  4. hunger games is not better than hp they just can't compare b/c they're completely different but it is REALLY good. If you like it you might also like Battle Royale which is pretty much the same as the hunger games except more violent.

  5. Well, I can say that I, personally, like The Hunger Games more than Harry Potter lol. Don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter so much, but The Hunger Games just moved up the ladder and passed it.
