Booking Through Thursday (8)

btt button

We’re moving in a couple weeks (the first time since I was 9 years old), and I’ve been going through my library of 3000+ books, choosing the books that I could bear to part with and NOT have to pack to move. Which made me wonder…

When’s the last time you weeded out your library? Do you regularly keep it pared down to your reading essentials? Or does it blossom into something out of control the minute you turn your back, like a garden after a Spring rain?

Or do you simply not get rid of books? At all? (This would have described me for most of my life, by the way.)

And–when you DO weed out books from your collection (assuming that you do) …what do you do with them? Throw them away (gasp)? Donate them to a charity or used bookstore? SELL them to a used bookstore? Trade them on Paperback Book Swap or some other exchange program?

Arielle: Well I would have to say that I never really get rid of books. I cannot
part with them unless they are books that I had no fun reading. Which doesnt
happen often. Sometimes I give them away to people, like my family or
friends. But I am kind of a hoarder of all things I love, so yeah...I keep my
books. :)

  1. omg please tell me you are kidding about the 3000+ books! I don't hang onto my books because I just don't have that kind of room. I hang onto the ones I can't ber to part with like my favorites. A few are my Austen collection, GWTW, short story collection by de Maupassant. That's why I love my library.

  2. I have entirely way to many books myself but I go through every now and then and weed it down a little bit.

  3. I hang to all of my books as well. People think I'm nuts. They're always like "What are you going to do with them anyways? It's not like you'll ever read them again or anything." Of course, I always tell them they've never read a book they've really loved so they wouldn't understand haha. ;) But I can completely sympathize with you on this one because books are super difficult to part with, especially for me.

  4. I've never, EVER, givven away any of MY books. That's why they're mine.. ^_^

I've moved 3 times and now I have 2 houses, each one with a BIG bookshelf.

I know I have some books I could live without. But still, I like to reread. Sometimes I'm in the mood of some part of a book I'v already read.

So... what would I do if I'd given it to someone else?? (I'd probably buy it again ^_^)
